Embroidery is the art of embellishing textiles, using a needle and thread. The craft finds its origins far back in time and can be traced in all kinds of cultures. Embroidery is a time consuming craft since a pattern or motif is placed on a fabric by hand. With the introduction of the embroidery machine around 1850, needlework was no longer necessary for making embroidery. Today, textile embroidery is largely automated.
Embroidery motifs are applied to the fabric with threads. Therefore, the embroidered pattern or motif cannot disappear. Embroidery can be found in different fabric qualities and can be used for many purposes.
