Tricot is a collective term for fine knitted fabrics. It is named after the French word 'tricoter' which means 'to knit'. Tricot can be made from all kinds of yarn, such as cotton, polyester, viscose, wool or rayon.
Tricot is a fine knit, which means that the fabric is very elastic. Various tricot fabrics have an addition of elastic yarns such as elastane, which makes the fabric even more stretchy. A tricot garment shapes the silhouette. These properties make jersey very suitable for comfortable clothing, T-shirts, sweaters, leggings, dresses, children's clothing and bedding.
